Why I Got Into Flying
Julian's first Jabiru aircraftFlying has been the essence of my enjoyment over the years. I got my ultralight pilot's licence back in 2005 and bought a Jabiru, all Australian designed and built aircraft. This is a picture of me with my first owned Jabiru. This one is a light weight, all fibreglass composite construction, high wing 2 seater with a cruise speed of approximately 100 knots. In relative terms this is around 185 km/h. One of my lifelong passions is to fly around Australia in my Jabiru aircraft, visiting all the outback stations and town folk, elders and people of the remote areas. This will take a lot of planning for me. Both in fuel stops, weather considerations, time, distance, food, water and access to aircraft maintenance facilities along the way. I am currently getting my Jabiru set up for long distance by installing GPS mapping and other such technology to help me navigate and make the journey more enjoyable. The reason I got into flying is the sense of freedom it gives me. Nobody can bother me when I'm in the air. I can see the earth as it is in all it's scenic beauty. I can travel fast - I can see what birds see. But most of all I love the freedom. If you want to know more about my flying, don't hesitate to contact me
